Overview

The Responsible AI (RAI) Playbook is designed to guide developers in the safe, trustworthy, and ethical development, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring of AI systems. It provides resources and recommendations to ensure AI technologies align with beneficial and equitable outcomes, particularly in the public sector.

Objective

The objectives of the Responsible AI Playbook are to help people understand and apply Responsible AI from a technical perspective. We do so in three ways:

  1. Clear and detailed explanations for key concepts in Responsible AI (such as safety, fairness, and interpretability).
  2. Easy-to-follow and actionable recommendations for deploying AI responsibly for your applications.
  3. Curated resources and papers to dive deeper into various aspects of Responsible AI.

Our hope is that this playbook will help you quickly grasp the full landscape of papers, guides, tools, and methodologies related to Responsible AI, provide a practical starting point to guard your AI applications against basic risks, and ultimately enable you to ship fast and responsibly.

Scope

The Responsible AI Playbook is applicable to Whole-of-Government (WOG) projects that involve AI system integration, ensuring compliance with responsible AI principles. It focuses on the technical aspects of Responsible AI. If you are interested in broader AI governance, please refer to the circulars published by MDDI on the use, development, and deployment of LLM systems in the Singapore Government. For specific guidance on AI security, please refer to CSA’s Guidelines and Companion Guide for Securing AI Systems.

Target Audience

The Responsible AI Playbook is intended for application developers in the Government, who are eager to launch AI products but are concerned about the risks, and hence need guidance on mitigating them.

Adoption of the Responsible AI Playbook involves:

  • Understanding the AI life cycle, and identifying risks and mitigation measures at each stage.
  • Implementing output testing and guardrails to ensure AI systems operate safely and ethically.
  • Collaborating with GovTech’s AI Practice for in-depth discussions.
