To support elderly individuals in living safely and independently, GatherSG is integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) devices to form a comprehensive monitoring and response system. This setup includes:

• Personal Alert Button (PAB): An IoT device installed in the homes of seniors, particularly in high-risk areas for falls. When pressed, it sends an alert to nearby Senior Activity Centres (SACs) or telecare operators.

• Case Management System (CMS): Powered by GatherSG, the CMS receives alerts from the PAB and coordinates the response. It is supported by 24-hour telecare operators and staff from SACs, ensuring rapid assistance.

• Crowdsourcing Mobile Application: Allows users to engage and support the system, facilitating the delivery of basic necessities and assistance.

• During the COVID-19 Circuit Breaker in 2020, this system was crucial in providing emergency support to seniors lacking their usual support networks.
• The system has aided over 100,000 vulnerable elderly individuals, including 35,000 government rental flat tenants, and has handled nearly 400 life-threatening situations.

Future projections

• With the number of seniors living alone expected to reach 83,000 by 2030, the system’s continued evolution and deployment aim to ensure that more elderly individuals can maintain their independence while receiving timely assistance in emergencies.
